DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 2008

Daylight savings time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 9.  Don't forget to "spring forward" and set your clocks one hour ahead before going to bed Saturday night.  In 2007, the start and end dates for daylight saving time (DST) in much of the US was changed, extending the overall duration. DST now begins on the second Sunday of March, and it will  end later than usual, on the first Sunday of November.  This causes DST to last 3-4 weeks longer than in previous years.

What about my computer and the longer DST period?  Microsoft has this to say about your computer clock.  "Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during the extended four-week period of DST. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated.  If you use Windows Vista or have Automatic Updates turned on, you may not be affected by the change in daylight saving time. If you want to confirm," you can go to the following site and follow the steps:  http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst

Second Education for Ministry Group to Begin Fall 2008.

Ms. Jane Lee, a certified EFM mentor will facilitate an evening EFM group beginning in the Fall of 2008.  You can learn more about EFM at
http://www.sewanee.edu/EFM/index.htm
.  The EFM program runs the entire academic year (34 weeks).  Materials cost about $340.  If you are interested in this program - which incidentally is about the best course of study in Bible, Theology, and Ministry outside of seminary - please contact the church office at 601-544-5551.  Only 10 seats are available.

An Inconvenient Truth.  We are doing an adult study of Nobel Prize Winner Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth on Wednesday evenings.  A study guide will be provided.  The film puts forth the argument that we can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue - rather, it is the biggest moral challenges facing our global civilization.  In order to be sure we prepare sufficient study materials, please email Bill at wgstroop@earthlink.net if you are interested in participating.

Sacred Stitches: Knitting & Needles in Holy Week by Debo Dykes.  The Center for Formation & Mission of The Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, will offer a three-day conference, "Sacred Stitches: Knitting & Needles in Holy Week" on March 17th, 18th, and 19th, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Holy Week.  The Rev. Jennifer Deaton, Chaplain for St. Andrew's Episcopal School and Priest Associate for St. Andrew's Cathedral, and The Rev. Debo Dykes, Director of Programming for The Center for Formation & Mission, will lead participants through an inner journey of their spiritual life, and share how prayer and meditation when knitting and needling stir opportunities for spiritual growth.  Registration will begin at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 6:00 pm, and our first session will begin at 7:00 pm.   The cost for the conference is $220.00, which includes, lodging, meals, and facilitator's fee.  For registration information please contact Debo Dykes at debo@dioms.org, or call 601-948-5954.  You may also register online at www.dioms.org, News & Events, EVENTS.  Prior to the conference, participants are encouraged to visit the new knitting shop in Jackson, MS, The Knit Studio, located in the space previously known as Knit Wits.  Judy McNeil is the new owner and can be reached at 601-991-3092

HOLY LEISURE a silent retreat with special guidance from licensed Spiritual Directors March 28 -30, May 2-4, August 8-10, & November 7-9.  Maybe it's a reaction to our hectic, media-driven new century, or perhaps it's just the logical progression for those who seek a life in Christ. Whatever the reason, our HOLY  LEISURE silent retreats are attracting seekers of all ages.  Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) reminds us of the importance of quieting our minds and calming our spirits in order to hear God's presence in our lives.  Under the guidance of licensed trained Spiritual Directors, participants will be given spiritual tools that will allow the "ambient noise" of our lives to diminish and be fully present with God.  For registration information please contact The Rev. Debo Dykes, debo@dioms.org, or 601-948-5954.

Open dates for 2008 Altar Flower memorials are:

You do not have to put Jody's name on the memo line of your check.  Just put it in an envelope with Jody's name on it.  Contributions designated to a specific individual on your checks are not tax deductible. Jody would like to acknowledge your gifts, so we will provide him with names and addresses but not amounts.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the church office.
