Future Events/Announcements

Training Event for Reading Camp, May 19, 10 am - 4 pm, Christ Methodist Church, Jackson, MS.  Bishop Gray is interested in Episcopal congregations taking part along with the Mississippi United Methodist Conference and the Mississippi Roman Catholic Diocese in helping with community or church-based reading camps implemented by the Barksdale Reading Institute.  The idea is to train volunteers 14 years and older to pair up with highly trained adult teachers and work with children who typically come from low income families for a four week period between June and July to help them not lose reading skills developed during the academic year.  The training will take place at Christ Methodist Church in Jackson, MS from 10 am to 4 pm on May 19.  If you are interested in learning more about this program, or want to volunteer, please contact Cathrine N. Halford at 601-607-3096 or at chalford48@yahoo.com

Jody Burnett’s Purse If you are interested in helping Jody Burnett while he is in seminary, you can write a check to Trinity Church and put in the envelopes provided in the pews that has Jody’s name on it.  If you give cash, please indicate your name and address on the outside of the envelope. You do not have to put Jody’s name on the memo line of your check.  Just put it in the envelope with Jody’s name on it.  Contributions designated to specific individuals on your checks are not tax deductible. Jody would like to acknowledge your gifts, so we will provide him with names and addresses but not amounts.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the church office.

The Mississippi Episcopal AIDS Committee Needs Help With Scholarships.  Each year the Mississippi Episcopal AIDS Committee has taken more patients and caregivers to the Province IV HIV/AIDS Retreat at the Kanuga Conference Center.  Because of rising fuel costs, Mississippi Episcopal AIDS Committee cannot fully fund scholarships for these participants, and they are asking for help from Episcopal Churches across the Diocese.  Any amount is welcome, and can be sent directly to the Mississippi Episcopal AIDS Committee c/o Mrs. Ella Tardy, Chair, P.O. Box 55803, Jackson, Mississippi 39296-5803.  Please indicate on the memo line of your check that your check is for the scholarship fund.  Please note that the Mississippi AIDS Committee is not the same as the AIDS Services Coalition here in Hattiesburg.
